7 Local Campgrounds Every Outdoor Enthusiast Should Visit
Oct 21, 2014
If you like to camp, chances are camping in the fall is one of your favorites. While camping in the summer can be tons of fun, it's often to hot to sleep well. Camping in the spring is cooler, but the crisp fall air, campfires at night and the many colors of the leaves turning are some of the great allures of camping!
We've put together a list of local destinations that offer all types of camping experiences to enjoy:
Camping MD National Park - Camping at Assateague will be a pleasant experience if you plan ahead! The barrier island habitat can be harsh if you are not prepared. Camping is available only in the Maryland district of Assateague Island. Campers are reminded to bring firewood(locally purchased), sunscreen, insect repellent, screen tents for shade and insect protection, and long tent stakes to anchor tents in the sand and wind.
Backcountry Camping MD - Assateague Island National Seashore has two oceanside and four bayside camping areas for visitors who wish to backpack or paddle the island. All backcountry campsites are located in Maryland; no camping is permitted in the Virginia district. The distance traveled to backcountry sites from the Ranger Station in Maryland range from 2 1/2 to 13 miles.
Camping VA - Maddox Family Campground offers the best in recreational camping, while being the closet campground to the Wildlife Refuge and Beach on Assateague Island. Maddox Family Campground includes over 550 sites, spread across 200 acres of wooded area.
Camping VA State Park - Camping, 6-bedroom family lodges, rental RVs, yurt and camping lodge (bunkhouse). For information on availability of overnight accommodations, particular park amenities or to make a reservation, you can reserve online or call 1-800-933-PARK. Rental rates for cabins and camping vary by season, dwelling and park. First, determine the appropriate season, which can vary by park, then the relevant rate.
Family Camping Resort VA - Popups, travel trailers, fifth wheels or motor homes, we have several 30-amp full hookup sites. For those who want to rough it a bit more, we offer many water/electric only campsites. If you want to experience the "true" camping experience, we also have no-hookup tent sites.
Family Camping Destination Park VA - Come enjoy the family-oriented destination park where there are no strangers, just camping friends you haven't met yet! Located on Virginia's Eastern Shore in Sanford, just minutes away from Chincoteague and Assateague Island. We are nestled amongst the tall pines and the beautiful waterfront of the Pocomoke Sound. Big Rig Friendly. Themed weekends throughout our season!
RV Camping VA - Located one half mile north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, Sunset Beach Inn is surrounded by 1700 acres of ecologically protected lands. Plus, our 38 acre site boasts one of the Eastern Shore's largest private beaches. Ecotourism, boating, swimming, biking, fishing and relaxing are yours to enjoy at our unique facility.
