Beat the Heat Indoors
Jul 31, 2017
It's summer and you want to make the most of the gorgeous weather, but some days it's just too hot. After the adventures you've already had outdoors this summer, you may be stumped for ideas on some activities indoors to beat the heat. Have no fear! Here are five great ideas on things to do inside.
Build a Fort
Building a fort, regardless of what age you are, is always fun. Even better than that, staying in a fort with cool sheets to block out the heat is a great way to stay cool in your Captain's Cove residence. You can always rent a redbox movie or two, or use an online streaming service to watch a movie while you're in the fort. Heck- even ordering a pizza (take out is key so you don't have to fire up the oven and heat up the house) and eating it in the fort is fun. Fairly inexpensive and you don't even have to leave the house!
Visit the Osprey Nest Art Gallery in Chincoteague
Here you can see Chincoteague pony, wildlife, and landscape paintings by resident artist Kevin McBride. Original works, giclees, and prints are available and can be custom framed to suit your needs, or you can stop in to view the art. After, you can visit a local restaurant for a bite to eat! For more information on the art gallery, visit their website.
Visit the Eastern Shore Railway Museum
If you like to explore museums, but art is not your thing, check out the Eastern Shore Railway Museum in Parksley! Learn all about the iron horse and it's history! The main museum building contains railroad memorabilia from the mid-1800s, and the 1927 Diplomat, which has several cars that are available for guided tours. Admission for children 12 and under is free and only $2 for adults! For more information, check out this website.
Visit the Chincoteague Island Library
Libraries can keep you entertained for weeks, and are the perfect place to visit other worlds and time periods while still keeping cool indoors. Get lost in a book, enjoy the AC and revitalize that lost love of reading. For more information, visit their website here.
Visit the Island Creamery
What better way to stay cool than to pick up some ice cream to eat there or to go? The Island Creamery has some amazing flavors like marsh mud, snickers cheesecake, java jolt, black raspberry, birthday cake, and more! For more information and a list of their flavors, visit their website!
There are plenty of things to do on the Virginia shore besides enjoying the beach and waterlife. And there's more to do indoors than just the movies or bowling. Be sure to stay safe and cool this summer, and have fun while doing it!
