Meal Prep for the Back-to-School Season!
Sep 07, 2017
Helping with hours of homework on top of bringing the kids to their extracurriculars takes up a lot of time after school. If the back-to-school season is leaving you with little time to prepare better dinners, start prepping on the weekend! We've got you covered with some great meal prep tips. With these tips, getting dinner on the table in your Captain's Cove home should really only take twenty minutes.
1. Plan for the Week
You can't go into meal prep blind. Plan out your meals for the week before you go to the grocery store. This will help you not overspend and will organize your meals for meal prep day. Need some ideas on meals that kids will like? Check out this list!
1. Chop Chop!
Now that all your meals are planned, you can figure out what needs to be chopped, sliced, or diced up! This is something that you can do ahead of time that adds on a lot of time to cooking dinner each night. You can then store what you've cut into sandwich bags or tupperware containers.
3. Measure Up
Measuring out things ahead of time such as rice or spices can also help you save time during the week. This is another reason why planning meals for the week is so handy and saves you time in the long run. You can even prep marinades or sauces beforehand by measuring out the ingredients and storing them either individually or separately.
4. Order Up!
While you don't have to cook the meal and reheat it during the week, you can cook parts of it such as a sauce or broth. These things are easy to reheat to save you time, while not giving you a leftover feeling with your dinner. Cooking proteins or starches beforehand are things you can cook, but these things are harder to heat up while still keeping the meal fresh.
Our last tip is to use paper plates to eat. Cooking takes a lot of time and effort and so does doing the dishes. While you will have some dishes, a lot of them will be done on your prep day and if you use paper plates and cups this will also save on time loading the dishwasher! Also, while eating out or ordering delivery can get expensive, if you need a break it's okay to do it once in awhile and take some time for yourself! Happy eating!
