Summer Fun on Wallops Island

Less than twenty minutes away from Captain's Cove Resort Community awaits the perfect quick summer getaway. Home to one of only four major rocket launch locations in the United States, Wallops Island has become a must-see tourist attraction along the Delmarva Peninsula.

Start your day at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center. The facility offers guests the unique opportunity to explore the past, present, and future of Wallops Island. Discover exhibits about orbital and suborbital rockets, current missions, and the history of the Wallops Flight Facility. In addition to several insightful exhibits, the museum features a slew of interactive activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Check the facility website for scheduled rocket launches and viewing locations before traveling.

A few minutes away from the flight facility is the Chincoteague Bay Field Station. This non-profit environmental center is dedicated to providing adventures that explore wildlife and marine environments through hands-on education. Make your visit one to remember by signing up for one of the Family Day Programs. Throughout these programs, groups will discover the unique marine habitats of the Eastern Shore and the fascinating creatures that live in them.

Take a break from your coastal getaway and stop for a quick bite. Ray's Shanty has been serving up the Eastern Shore's freshest seafood since 1986. Try a pound of the freshly caught Chincoteague Clams and Oysters with a hearty side of Ray's famous hush puppies.

Once you've finished your delicious seafood lunch, make your way to the Eastern Shore's Queen Hive Farm for a fun afternoon of horseback riding. Book your rides in advance as this is one of the few horse farms in the area that offers riding sessions for visitors. Enjoy an hour horseback riding through the grass fields and wooded area of Queen Hive Farm.

A day of Eastern Shore's coastal adventures awaits you. From rocket launches to horseback riding, the quick drive to Wallops Islands makes for an ideal day trip. Head to Wallops Island before the summer season ends!
