Top Summer Events on Chincoteague Island

Every year, Chincoteague hosts several iconic summer events including the Volunteer Fireman's Carnival, Blueberry Festival, the world famous Pony Swim, and more. Here are our top events to check out in Chincoteague this summer.
Chincoteague Volunteer Fireman's Carnival
Enjoy this annual tradition of rides, games, food, and much more! Dates for this year's carnival are: June 24- 25, July 1- 2, 4, 8- 9, 15- 16, 22- 30 from 7-11pm.
Summer Cinema Series
On five Thursday evenings throughout the summer, catch a movie outdoors under the stars in Robert Reed Downtown Waterfront Park. Just bring a chair or blanket! Films begin at dusk on June 30, July 14, July 28, August 11 and August 25. See the movie schedule here.
Music at the Dock
Several Saturday evenings this summer enjoy free concerts held in Robert Reed Park. Just bring a chair or blanket, or dock your boat! The fun starts on July 2 with the Salisbury Community Band, followed by concerts on August 6 and 27. See the lineup here.
Independence Day Fireworks
The Chincoteague Volunteer Fireman's Carnival will be open on the 4th of July at 7pm with rides, games, and food, and the fireworks will begin at approximately 10pm.
Chincoteague Island Blueberry Festival
The 31st Annual Blueberry Festival will be July 22-24, and it's the largest Fine Arts & Crafts Event on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. You'll find 100+ fine artists and crafters from 12 states, live music, delicious food and, of course, lots and lots of blueberries!
91st Annual Pony Swim
In this world-famous event, see the Chincoteague Ponies swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. See our blog post from last year's Pony Penning for a complete guide of the week's events. This year's Pony Penning stars with the Pony Roundup on the 23-24th, Beach Walk on the 25th, Pony Swim on the 27th and Auction on the 28th. The carnival is open every night during pony penning week.
